Wedding invitations vary dramatically in style, but the core information is usually simple. Collect the names, wedding date, ceremony time, venue name, location and RSVP path before you worry about fonts or flourishes.

Decide what belongs on the invitation versus a details card

Trying to place every piece of wedding information on one card creates clutter. Parking instructions, hotel blocks, transportation, dress code, registry notes and reception details may fit better on a separate details card or wedding website.

The invitation should let a guest understand who is getting married, when it happens, where it happens and how to respond.

Choose a wording tone

Formal wording can use full names, written-out dates and traditional invitation language. Modern wording can be more direct and conversational. The important thing is consistency: the wording, typography and event style should feel like the same wedding.

If families are hosting together or there are sensitive family structures, settle the wording before layout so design decisions do not force an awkward rewrite later.

Check time and location carefully

A wrong ceremony time or ambiguous venue is much more costly than a font choice. Verify the venue’s exact display name and whether guests need the street address on the printed invitation.

If the reception is at a different location, say so clearly or move the full details to the companion card.

Preview the design with real names
